History
The University of Washington Boise Psychiatry Residency Program started in 2007 as the Idaho Advanced Clinician Track and transitioned to a full 4-year residency program in Idaho July 2021. This residency is part of the University of Washington’s WWAMI (Washington, Wyoming, Alaska, Montana, Idaho) Program, whose primary goal is to bring quality care and advanced medical training to largely under-served and rural areas within the region. We aim to develop well-rounded, expert clinicians who are committed to becoming exceptional caregivers and leaders in their communities. Our residents complete their rigorous training in an array of supportive clinical setting including the VA Hospital, Saint Alphonsus and St. Luke’s Community Hospitals, Idaho State Hospital South, Idaho State Correctional Institution, Boise State University, and the Family Medicine Residency of Idaho. In the first two years of training, residents learn inpatient, forensic, emergency, and addiction psychiatry. In PGY3 and PGY4, residents experience integrated outpatient training opportunities, learn geriatric, child and adolescent, and telepsychiatry, polish themselves as consultants, and grow as community leaders. We emphasize the importance of making a difference within and beyond the hospital system.
We also strive for a work-life balance that is conducive to enjoying the perks of living in a fast-growing city and enjoying the vast beauty surrounding it. Our small program size helps our residents foster strong, lasting bonds with their peers and with their faculty. The relaxed attitude of the Pacific Northwest allows us to easily promote wellness alongside personal and professional growth. As Boise continues to boom, so, too, does its need for specialty care and expert psychiatrists.
Thank you for your consideration of our program. We are thrilled by your interest to join us during this exciting time!
