Work Experiences/Areas of Interest
Dr. Shackelford has board certifications in general psychiatry and family medicine. He has completed specialized post-residency training programs in psychotherapy, Ketamine assisted therapy and MDMA assisted therapy. He is in private practice in Boise with former UW Boise psychiatry resident Nicholas Hovda, MD. In his role as site supervisor and psychotherapy supervisor he provides lectures as well as unique educational opportunities in a private practice setting that have traditionally been outside the mainstream Psychiatry resident experience. He is primarily interested in changing the way the field of Psychiatry delivers effective care in outpatient settings.
Current Clinical Work:
Dr. Shackelford holds special interests in Intensive Short-Term Psychodynamic Therapy (IS-TDP) as well as Medication Assisted Psychotherapy, such as with Ketamine and MDMA. He enjoys collaborating with other therapists in the community to optimize their effectiveness and get to the root of their patients' conflicts. He also has a passion for providing teaching and supervision to Psychiatry residents.
