Work Experiences / Areas of Interest
Dr. Brown likes helping the talented residents develop a more “authentic” professional identity where they can be themselves while using science-based interventions. As such, he is always exploring ways to teach the core of therapy without watering it down. He thinks we have a good record of residents becoming excited by the possibilities for professional & personal growth in learning psychotherapy.
Other areas of interest: the integration of schools of psychotherapy, attachment & and the social brain, eco-psychology, sports psychology, anthropology, international psychology & psychiatry, and how we in underserved areas can create excellent training.
Current Clinical Work
Psychotherapy Training Director. He helps organize the therapy training & supervision. This includes developing curriculum, teaching seminars, coordinating the courses, & recruiting the supervisors. He has been here as we’ve taken the residency from two residents to 16.
Private Practice. He sees adults and adolescents for psychotherapy, primarily psychodynamic depth therapy. He aims to bring the present moment into therapy. Depending on the client’s needs, we also draw from CBT, ACT, family systems, and existential approaches.
